ASMR (Autonomic Sensory Meridian Response) is a relatively new term for a bodily sensation that has likely been experienced throughout human history. It is characterized by a tingling sensation triggered by a variety of stimuli such as whispers, personal attention, or mundane repetitive sounds. ASMR aficionados listen to and/or watch ASMR content primarily for relaxation or stress relief, but recent research also points to its potential for alleviation of the symptoms of depression and of chronic pain. Heart rate monitoring confirms a decrease of 3.41 beats per minute on average while consuming ASMR content, in alignment with other mindfulness-based techniques. With over 13 million videos tagged ASMR on YouTube and regular attention in major news outlets and on popular television shows, ASMR offers sound healing practitioners a bridge to connecting with a wide audience of potential clients
