In this paper I first introduce the term entheogen and talk about the effects of one of the most famous entheogens, amazonian DMT rich brew called ayahuasca. Then I focus on music that traditionally accompanies ayahuasca ceremonies, on songs called “icaros”, how they originate and how they function. In the next part I talk about the use of less traditional music that I personally have experience with during the ceremonies, the mantras. I explain what role music plays in the ceremonies, why even unpleasant music can be very healing and how important it is for the process of integration after the entheogenic experience.
