Principles of Light Therapy Made Practical — Session @ NALT/WALT Arlington, VA, 9 SEP 2014 Workshop. Discussed findings on basic mechanisms of photobiomodulation, highlighted pre-clinical investigations & critical parameters for effectiveness of light therapy. As light & its photonic effects have stood the test of time in VA Med (and photo-medicine in general) has gained recognition well beyond veterinary medicine, it’s an area of innovative & novel research with significant “bridge potential” to understanding healing via quantum mechanics. As we gain new understandings of integrative practices major challenges are looming in the field of wellness and health care. One is to integrate technology, mind, and spirit into clinical practice. The second is to create models of healing and caring that inspire health-care providers to become therapeutic facilitators with the patient/family. Energy medicine, or bio-energetic medicine is one such model and refers to therapies that use an energy field-electrical, magnetic, sonic/harmonic/percussive, acoustic, microwave, or infrared-to screen for or treat health conditions through the detection and correction of imbalances in the body’s energy fields. Most energy medicine devices are based on the Acupuncture meridian system, where life energy, or chi, flows through the body along energy channels called meridians. Many are quite simple in that they involve self-regulation of posture after brief episodes of exposure.
