The present dissertation is based on two research topics. Studies I and II compare body image
related issues among Estonian and Australian young adults. These studies were carried out in
cooperation with Prof. M. Tiggemann (The Flinders University of South-Australia) in 1999-2000.
Studies III and IV concentrate on the influence of vibroacoustic stimulation and applying
vibroacustic therapy (VAT) in a non-clinical population, bringing up the possibility to use VAT
for diminishing body dissatisfaction. Study III is based on the experimental data collected in
1995-1997. Study IV is a part of a broader research project “The possibilities of applying music
therapy and vibroacoustic therapy for diminishing heightened anxiety in adolescents” carried out
in 2002-2003.
